2009 Keg and Get to Know Us Party

Party Review - 18th Annual Keg & Get to Know Us Party
A.K.A. The Night of a Thousand Wings
Sponsored by Village Ski and Snowboard

Once again, the Fagowees show that we’re a drinking club with a skiing problem.  We had an AWESOME turnout with 80+ Fagowees (and potential Fagowees) enjoying the night at Stancatos in Parma. Their party room is a big upgrade, and they even served us beer and wine in real glasses!  As usual, DJ Dave was spinning the tunes although with his cool computer setup, nothing actually spins anymore.  A big part of the party is our annual Racer’s Raffle, where we raffle off great prizes to raise money for CMSC’s BEST race team.

Huge thanks go out to Ed and the crew from Village Ski and Snowboard.  They brought us a SUPER spread of stuff including skis, a ski trip to Holimont, gift certificates, and about 50 other prizes! If you are in the market for skis or a snowboard, stop by The Village.  Mention that you are from the Fagowees; let’s support the folks that help support our club.

Huge thanks also go out to my assistant Sharon E.  Sharon really pounded the streets this year drumming up prizes from ski areas.  We had a “lightning round” where we raffled off over $800 of lift tickets and prizes to great places like Cockaigne, Holimont, Seven Springs, Holiday Valley, Swain, Snow Trails, and White Face.

Year after year, we continue to have a large spread of prizes, with over 70 prizes to raffle off this year.   At the end of the raffle, we gave away our grand prize, a set of Nordica twin tip skis.  The winner was Peggy Poeppelman, a guest of Ivette and Bruce V. (and hopefully a new member!).  Tony Tomsic was the winner of our runner up prize, a two day ski trip to White Face in upstate New York.

Special mention goes out to Brian, “Special K”, who won FOUR prizes.  When he was asked about his winning strategy, he held up an impressive pile of tickets and said, “Buy a lot of tickets!”  Thanks for the support Brian.

We had a couple people mention that there were no chicken wings, and that wasn’t the case.  We had boneless chicken wings this year and plenty of them.  The food was rounded out with pizza, meatballs, and a salad.

The raffle raised about $1000 for the Fagowees’ race team.  This is important to the club since it helps finance race credits i.e. free or discounted racing.  Last year, the proceeds from the Racer’s raffle paid for every racer’s combined weekend race fees and also provided discounted racing for a number of other races.

Finally, if you are looking for new equipment, Village Ski/Snow is running an awesome bus trip/demo day to Holimont on Weds 1/13; it’s called Test Fest, and for $85 you get a bus ride to Holimont, lift ticket, and the opportunity to try skis from a whole bunch of different manufactures.  Once the ski day is done, the plan is to party in Ellicottville for a few hours.  If you have time and money left after signing up for Fagowees trips, check out their web site at www.villagesnow.com or call 440-779-8788 for more information.

Until next year (probably at Stanccatos again),

Brian & Sharon
