When looking at the best DAMN
race team in town, it is hard to single out any one person! So,
the race committee attempts to look at all racers when giving
out awards, and concentrate individuals who had a particularly
good year. But please remember, each and every one of you makes
the FAGOWEE race team GREAT!!
The Racer of the Year is determined
by whoever has the most points.

Male Racer of the Year
Normally we just announce the top five. This last
season through we had four males that made that race very tight
in who made fifth place. So to honor their hard work and
accomplishments eight male racers bear mentioning. Two
people tied for fifth: Both Rich J and Brian K with 197 points,
just two points behind them was Jack A with 195
and Ralph P had 191. In fourth place with 208 was John
S, third was Frank H with 219. Beating Frank by just one point
was Tom K at 220 points. This year, winner
scored 270 beating the second place winner by 50 points! Don
L now in BVM and formerly in CCVM, with a whopping 270
points, totally kicked butt! |

Female Racer of the Year
On the female’s side first place had a 30 point difference
over second place. But fifth through third were only
separated by 9 points. In fifth is race chair Renee S with 195,
fourth, Linda W with 200, third Laverne S with 204.
Second place with 219 points and a bump into AVW is Marilyn
L. And now in AW, after jumping TWO classes in one season
from CCW>BW>AW, Martina showed us how it’s done with 249
points. Both Don and Martina made the race chair have to do
MATH: adding up points from multiple classes!

Most Improved
When the race committee looks at Most Improved, we don’t
just evaluate who has the most points between the prior and
current years or who got strikes and/or bumps or who moved up in
their class. We also consider has the makeup of that class
changed, are you beating people you did not use to beat. We look
at how someone did, relative to their competition from one year
to the next. How have you improved over the course of the
season? Did you finish strong. Are you the person to beat NOW
in that class? Of course we also look for someone who’s skiing
has changed – for the better!

Woman’s Most Improved
We had considered four females who showed improvement in one
or more of the areas just mentioned. Laverne improved in
point totals and won the Combined. Christine A got a
strike and often was the one to watch in her class. But we had
2 females bump this year, Martina (twice!) and Marilyn. Both got faster and showed a desire for speed and
improved their skiing. These were our candidates for Most
Improved Female. But the recipient Martina not only blew
thru CCW in the 1st 2 races….but kicked solid bootay
in BW, and finally jumped to AW and looked great doing it.
Martina is truly an inspiration to us all and gets the WMI! |

Most Improved Male
This one was the toughest choice in years. Our initial list
had eight racers on it. We changed our minds four or five
times on who should get this award. An argument could be made
for several people on the list that they deserved it. Four
people got bumped to a higher class: Denny Ives turned down the
intensity on the race course started winning instead of crashing
and got the near impossible bump to AAM after two super runs at
Holiday Valley II. Rich J, definitely was the early
favorite after re-qualifying up to CCM, he dominated there, got
bumped to BM where everyone checked to see how he did. Bruce
V (last year’s winner) continued his improvement and
bumped from BVM > BBVM, Don L got a well deserved second
strike and bump from CCVM > BVM, but not before he also won
Combined and scored the most Fagowee points. Others, like Tom
K, stared to put the pieces together and became the man to
beat, won Combined, his class and showed improved small skills
that were reflected in point totals and several first place
finishes at the seasons end. But there was one racer who was
ninth overall in his class the year before …not only did he look
like a totally different skier this year but, he really cleaned
up on points, getting about 4 times more points this year. By
the end of the season he was the man to beat, beating others in
his class, that had beat him at the season’s beginning! Along
the way he won Combined and his class, CVM! Jack A!
Good job Jack, keep up the good work.

Rookie of the Year, for both male &
female was easy this year.
One new thing we started this season was the Super bowl
squares contest. The funds earned from this benefit went to
offset the race fees for first year racers. Also when it is
possible, to give the winners of the Rookie of the Year
award a full free ride to cover their race fees for that season.
The winners for both male & female was easy
this year, these two dove into the race program with both feet,
worked very hard and did more races than the other 1st
year racers combined!! One even gave up her body to win a
first place at Holiday Valley II. Mike O and Karen G great
job! Welcome aboard and thanks for the work on the website!

This year we decided to honor our returning
racers, who after fighting various injuries, returned, re-found
their ski legs and got back in the game:
Chuck M, Deb B & Brian K…great to have you guys back!!

Happily, there is only one Broken Tomahawk
to present: Karen G!

These are just a few of the individuals,
who made it happen for the FAGOWEE race team this season, and
the race committee would like to thank each and every racer for
a fantastic year. The FAGOWEE race team WON EVERY SINGLE CMSC
RACE IN 2006! What an accomplishment!! Not only is this the best
damn ski club in town, but now we are also the best DAMN Race
team!
